About the Junior Squads
Junior teams
The County enters multiple junior teams into the Badminton England Shires County League.
Junior Squad Trials / practice / SELECTION sessions
The County runs regular training sessions for the junior squads. County training brings together children from around the region who are selected for their ability and potential, and allows them to practice together to enhance and build on their learning from their existing club or coaching and ultimately represent Cambridgeshire.
These training sessions are held at:
Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm at Northstowe Secondary College, Stirling Road, Northstowe, CB24 1DJ: These sessions are for the Performance Squad (generally birth year 2007 and older)
Thursday evenings at Swavesey Villiage College, Gibraltar Lane, Swavesey, CB24 4RS:
Talent Squad (generally birth year 2011 and younger) 6:00-7:45pm
Development Squad (generally birth year 2008-2011) 7:45-9:30pm
on the following dates:
Junior training is booked in training blocks (roughly termly).
These dates are also available in the complete County calendar page (where you can also import Google calendars for your use).
Children are selected to train with the County if they are considered of an appropriate standard to represent the County in the Shires Junior County League, or if they display the potential to develop to that standard. The County sessions are run by a Badminton England qualified Coach, with assistance from assistant coaches and Senior and Masters County players.
Players can prove their ability in a number of ways, including by representing the County, by performances in local (Fun or Futures) or circuit (BE Bronze, Silver and Gold) tournaments, or can be recommended by their coach.
If you are a coach or a parent who have a child whom you believe is at the appropriate standard to trial for acceptance into the County training programme, please contact badminton@bates.net for further information. Your child will be invited to trial with the squad for a few weeks. Trial fees are £15 per session.
If your child has been accepted to train with the County squad, or play for a County team, please ensure that you have completed the registration form online.
