Badminton England Introduces CLUB ENGLAND

image-10488-orig.jpg

Hopefully you are all aware of the up and coming changes to the BADMINTON England membership scheme but in January this year the Board of Directors and Council representatives were presented with a document regarding the new membership scheme called CLUB ENGLAND, which was approved. Club England was launched at the Yonex All England Open Badminton Championship in March 2011 and will officially become the new membership scheme for BADMINTON England for the 2011/12 season. We would therefore like to inform you of some of the changes we have introduced for the coming season.

What is Club England?

Club England is a new look membership scheme for BADMINTON England that has allowed us to streamline the current membership whilst introducing a new level of membership which will to allow us to grow and develop affiliation to BADMINTON England over the coming years

There are four main categories of Club England which are as follows:

Club England - All Badminton Club members will become Club England Members. Membership will continue to be managed by the club secretary on annual bases.

Club England Active - For Active Players who do not want to commit to a club but will receive all the benefits a club member receives (cannot play in ICC)

Club England Supporter - Ideal for Badminton fans who don't play badminton but want to be kept up to date with BADMINTON England information.

Club England Community - Free online membership to Club England, perfect to keep you up to date with BADMINTON England new and special offers, no matter how much or how little badminton you play. In order to receive any of the advertised member benefits apart from a monthly e-newsletter or offers Club England Community members will have to upgrade to any of the other membership listed above.

Changes for Senior Clubs

All members within a senior club will still have the same membership types SCM, JCM, HVO and will be processed in the same way as previous seasons using the online membership wizards. BADMINTON England fees have been frozen for the coming season, each senior member will pay £10 and each junior member will pay £5 plus County Fee.

Changes for Junior Clubs

All members within a junior club will still have the same membership types of a JJC or HVO, BADMINTON England fees have been frozen for the coming season, and junior club fee will remain £48.20 plus County Fee.

There are new fields required to add a member onto the online system (we hope this will help reduce duplicate members but also allow us a clearer insight into how many individual members we actually have, including juniors). These are:

First name
Surname
Postcode (which will allow you to auto select the correct address)
Date of Birth

You will not be able to add members or find a current member on the online system without the above information so please make sure this information is requested from all your new or returning members.

Next season we hope to be in a position where all members, once initially added onto the system by the Club Secretary, will receive notification of their own personal username and password. This will allow them to log into a new page on the website and edit and update their own information. We hope that this will save time for the Club Secretaries throughout the season as well as guarantee that at all times we, along with Counties, Leagues and Clubs will have access to correct, up to date contact information.

We will be circulating more information throughout the summer months to keep you up to date with the launch of Club England. But to have a quick look in more detail why not CLICK HERE.

In the mean time, if you have any questions or queries please contact the membership team at: membership@badmintonengland.co.uk or call 01908 268400.

County Selections 2008/2009

Once again the county selection for the forthcoming season has taken a long time and has been a difficult process. There are many players with a strong case to be included, but there are only a limited number of places we can offer and we have tried to be as objective and fair as we can.

The selections below are based on many factors, including:

- performance over the summer practices

- results at the restricted tournament

- performance from the previous season

- potential

- availability

- commitment to county/training

- personal development and course plain old talent.

We have lost some players but also gained new ones, so there are some new names and faces here and there. Currently we have two county teams, the first team in div. 2B and the second team in div. 4B. The first team narrowly missed promotion last year so the target for this season is to again push for a high finish. The second team did get promoted last year and their target will be to consolidate that position and ideally achieve a successive promotion. To this end we have decided upon a squad of 29 players (16 men and 13 ladies) of which 11 are reserves. We must nominate four men and four ladies for the first team who then cannot play down in the seconds. We have also decided to allocate one further man who does not have to be nominated, but who will also be a first team pick. As the match dates this year are the same for both the first and second teams, it is highly likely that the reserves will be called upon during the season.

Before we list the teams, although no doubt some of you have already taken a sneak peak, we should mention the restricted. Special mention should go to Olga Bryant for winning a clean sweep again, James Watkins for a fantastic win in the mens singles, Kevin and Sonny for successfully defending their mens title and of course Nick Pratt for winning the mixed for the 8th time in 10 years. We'd also like to welcome newcomers Katie Balls, Will Hodgkinson and Peter Galloway to the county squad, who have all impressed recently with very strong performances.
